Episode 86 - Archiving Your Life with Rufus de Rham

RUFUS DE RHAM is a film critic, podcaster, archivist, festival organizer and film programmer, living in New York. I came to know Rufus through him co-hosting the great film podcast, “cineAWESOME,” with former Debatable guest, James McCormick. But, we’ve also become fast friends through the Gentleman’s Guide to Midnite Cinema (GGTMC)’s Facebook page, sharing a love for technical nerdity and cult films with fellow cinephiles. Rufus is a dude I admire greatly, and I was so happy to finally have him on the show. Enjoy!

i was pleased to be on “Beacon Hills: After Dark” again. this is a podcast on MTV’s Teen Wolf, hosted by my girlfriend and our good friends, Stacey and Meg. a lot of good talk, laughs and criticism of this less-than-grand TV show. Enjoy!

bhadpodcast:

In Which We (Barely) Discuss:

Y’all, we’re just… so tired. So… so tired. We were joined by podcast friend Greg of Debatable Podcast who had a lot of questions that we couldn’t really answer.

Everything is in one pile so not only will you have a few user questions, but also:

  • Thoughts on Stalia
  • Jeff Davis anal analysis
  • What is a Berserker?
  • Malia still gets no deer pizza, but she does get a family.
  • She’s totally Stiles’ mom now
  • Meg’s infinite sighs
  • The general confuddledness of this show

We get stop-ins from Abbysaurus and potential roomie *keep those fingers crossed!* Sarah. There will also be outtakes later tonight so stay tuned.

As I mentioned, we barely got any real ground covered and don’t wanna leave y’alls excellent questions hanging. We may try to do a mailbag episode and then in a couple of weeks we’ll get with the boys from Demon Wolfcast for an S4 retrospective and S5 Wishing Well!

Don’t forget to follow us on Tumblr, twitter, instagram, Facebook, everywhere @bhadpodcast.

Thanks kids, you’ve made this season tolerable and we really love and appreciate you!

Episode 85 - PODCRAWL - Stephen Hopkins’ Predator 2 with Ethan Meyer, Daniel Tayag and Chris Hanyok

Ethan Meyer, Daniel Tayag & Chris Hanyok reunite with me to talk about the 1990 sci-fi action movie “Predator 2.” We talk about the Hard-R action phase of cinema in the ’80s and ’90s, director Stephen Hopkins’ career, whether or not Danny Glover is a serviceable action star, and we explore the ups and downs of P2’s place in the series. We also pitch great viewing alternatives, both real and fake. Enjoy!

Making the Scene

I bring news! Coming soon to fancypants audio devices everywhere: the Making the Scene podcast, hosted by yours truly and guest starring an exciting array of writers, filmmakers and critics.

What is Making the Scene?

Analyzing film is hard. Sure, talking about the film as a whole isn’t so bad, but what if you want to get into why it works, and how? How does the film use lighting? What effect does the editing have? What’s the soundtrack up to, and why? No matter how many times I’ve sat down with favorite films, intending to break it apart and dig into the tools and techniques at work, I end up losing focus and just watching the damn thing within 20 minutes. I want to be all technical, but a great movie overwhelms me every time.

So, I thought: What if I focused only on a single scene? A scene I could watch over and over without burning a whole week. A scene — the right scene — could serve as a microcosm for how the overall film works.

Making the Scene will bring on a new guest for every episode, and that guest will come bearing one of their all-time favorite film scenes. The two of us will dive in and rip it apart, looking for the keys to how and why it works so well. I’ve recorded 6 of the 8 episodes for this season (it’s a limited run kind of thing, but if it works out, I can always come back for another season) and I’m so excited about what my guests have brought. If you love film, I think you’re going to really enjoy this podcast.

Making the Scene launches Sunday, September 14th

Be prepared

I’m going to be on the first episode of this talking Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid.

Episode 82 - Breaking the Surface with Kenn Edwards

Podcaster, burgeoning stand-up, musician & music lover, KENN EDWARDS, joins me on the show to get down to the deep stuff. We address the love & hate relationship the film community has with filmmaker Kevin Smith and we discuss Kenn’s admiration for his idols — including Smith, “Weird” Al Yankovic and Chris Hardwick — and the transparency they share with their fans. We touch on Kenn’s own show and his recent interview with Yankovic, as well as what shapes people trying to do their own creative thing, and what sets Kenn apart from most: a positive, down-for-anything attitude. We finish up the episode with a lesson on concert-going etiquette, and Kenn and I play some well-established games.
